I've written new words to the old sea shanty The Leaving Of Liverpool. It was supposedly first heard around 1870.

Feel free to add your ideas, and remember, it's the tune of The Leaving Of Liverpool – not Lilly the Pink! 😀

Farewell to my seat in Bullens Road and the pillars say that I can't see
I am off to the majestic Bramley-Moore Dock by the banks of the blue Mersey

So fare thee well, my true blue love
And the holy trinity
It's not the leaving of Goodison that grieves me
But my Dixie when I think of thee.

I have seen the greats at Goodison, Temple, Southall, Ball and Sheedy
But you will never ever see again the greatest one, our Dixie

So fare thee well, my true blue love
And the holy trinity
It's not the leaving of Goodison that grieves me
But my Daddy when I think of thee.

We have won the league's the cups and all and and beat the old enemy

We have seen that all at Goodison never forget the old lady

So fare thee well, my true blue love
And the holy trinity
It's not the leaving of Goodison that grieves me
But my Mammy when I think of thee.

Goodbye to Goodison Road and Bullens Road, and old Gwladys Street
The Winslow, The Abbey and The Brick, but The Spellow was the one for me

So fare thee well, my true blue love
And the holy trinity
It's not the leaving of Goodison that grieves me
But my Dixie when I think of thee.

So off we go to seasons new and what will be will be
For its off to our new home at Bramley-Moore Dock and the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey.

So fare thee well, my true blue love
And the holy trinity
It's not the leaving of Goodison that grieves me
But my Dixie when I think of thee.

Being an old timer, the first thing that took my breath away was looking up at the Main Stand, back in the late 50's. Also the old Park End. Then the bulldozers came in.

Does any one remember the copper Black beard. The urchins were terrified of him. Too handy with the truncheon, me thinks!!

The Leaving of Liverpool is one of my favourites Paul, closely followed by In my Liverpool Home.

Maybe your next release can be to that tune, but titled "In my Everton Home".

I remember the League Champions season of 1969-70. I think it was a 2-nil win against West Bromwich Albion.

I'm not sure but, if I'm right, that was the last game in the old main stand and I took a spanner along to unscrew my seat and take it home.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I did steal my seat. I was only a pre-teenager. 😀

Paul, it was 2-0. Think it might have been Alan Whittle with the first but I know the 2nd was Colin Harvey.

Did I see it? No, I was on a school trip to London and my mother went instead. That and the Palace game at the start of the season the only ones I missed.

Hence the mad dash along the M62 in 1985 to see us get the trophy when we played West Ham.

Paul great lyrics, I looked for your song this morning after reading your post but I couldn't find it. Just arrived home from todays game and you have managed to lift my spirits. Do you know why it went missing. Danny mentioning "In my Liverpool home" reminded me of an EP from the 60's "The Singing City " it featured all three songs plus Maggie May and Dirty old town.

Geoff thanks mate really appreciate your words. Danny asked me to put some lyrics to, in my Liverpool home, which started today and I'm half thorough. Not heard Shanty is Whip Jamboree, who's that by?
Was the game that bad? Lol
