Not much of a great reveal really... but interesting that the story claims Everton got £60M for him, which is considerably better than the £40M initial payment, perhaps rising to £45M max, that we were told at the time.

All in the add-ons and incentives, no doubt, and he did get to play in the Champions League, which had to be worth a decent chuck to Everton, you would think?

The common narrative has been that we sell our assets below their true value... so perhaps not so true in this case???

That surprised me too, Michael: that said, if you look at what other Premier League teams have paid for wingers with lesser outputs than Gordon (eg, Mudryk at Chelsea) the reported £60M figure looks fair, if you take into account the inflated transfer values for top English players within the Premier League.

Everton only saw flashes of what the player is delivering now for Newcastle. Clearly, Eddie Howe saw how Gordon was being played across the front line by us out of necessity, and Gordon has quickly brought that versatility to his new club.

He has added defensive qualities to his repertoire, and I feel that Anthony should be commended for how he has worked to be influential in games. He also deserves his international status, but was badly underused in the last tournament.

Fees mentioned in news reports are often miles out – and ignore currency difference between £ and €.

The £22.5M paid for Beto is often referred to as £30M in news reports for example.

I would take the figures quoted with a pinch of salt.

That's true, Robert. Then there's all the add-ons that must distort or at least complicate any measure of player value... which you rely on a lot, don't you, in your player and club assessments!?!

I was reading the Mendy story in The Athletic and his claim for unpaid wages:

His 6-year contract with Manchester City was worth £6M a year. The tribunal heard how this was topped up by various bonuses, including a minimum of £1.2M in image-rights payments every year, a further £900k appearance bonus if he featured in 60% of City’s matches and a one-off payment of £1M if they reached the Champions League. He would have received another £700k from winning the Champions League, £350k for the Premier League, £100k for the FA Cup and £50k for any of the League Cup, Uefa Super Cup or the Club World Cup.

Of course, very little danger of such things affecting our lot in their travails!

True, Michael.

I tend to use the Transfermarkt figures which are generally accurate. It's the press which are routinely wrong.

Sharp and Heath had a cracking partnership going but good job we signed Gray cos Inchy picked up a bad injury after the Marwood challenge.

He'd scored 14 times before up to December, I was gutted for him cos he was in great form until the injury.

Talk about a thread being hijacked. This was about Anthony Gordon and his latest, and frequent utterances.

As far as I'm concerned, this lad is a rat that deserves treating with utter contempt for the way he behaved at Everton and what he has had to say since. He is what he looks like he is, a ratty little shithouse.

Since the fawning pathetic walk on the beach Gary Neville interview, this mediocre little shit and his opinions fill the sports news medium.

One good season at Newcastle and he's lauded like a football God…not difficult up there in that desert of success.

For his ability and achievements this mouthy little Kopshite has far too much to say for himself and absolutely nothing decent to say about a club that nurtured him from the age of 11.

He'll shit on those dopey Geordies, like when he thought Liverpool were interested, and I'm tired of the mouthy little Tiprat espousing his ‘mental approach' to opposition players and penalty taking (how did that pan out for you… dickhead?)

To my mind, he's sly, unprincipled and average and I'll be thrilled if his career crashes and burns. Look at his face… he is, exactly, what he looks like he is.

Gordon looked like he has really improved when he played at Goodison last month (shooting aside) but he's not a player I have ever missed watching, even though I'm watching some shite!

Way too much bile for me.

We talk about everything that is wrong in the game.

That's a post right up there.

Some people will always make others feel that way, Brendan.

I disliked Gordon the footballer from the day he wasn't brave enough and didn't (want to) work hard enough against Liverpool during one Merseyside derby at Goodison. And I remember my little godson telling me that Anthony Gordon nearly came unstuck outside Goodison because he was a horrible, arrogant, shithouse!!

I thought Everton did brilliantly out of Gordon but I think the club also stitched him up because they knew they were going to sell him.

They probably had to sell him, just like they had to sell Wayne Rooney and maybe even Francis Jeffers, with history continuing to repeat itself when these young scousers were made out to be the bad guys, even though it was the ineptness behind the scenes that had made it impossible for the club to keep those young players.

It was arguably the highlight of the season so far when Pickford saved his penalty. It was a good moment that, in a season of endless not-good moments.

Apart from that I don't really think about him much. Decent player, no more. Much rather watch Ndiaye. Decided to ply his trade elsewhere. His prerogative. Leave him to it.

Brings a lot of the vitriol on himself though with his comments which veer towards the snide.

Phil Gardner, Gordon is not an 'average' player. That's absolutely ridiculous and borders on bitter.

I can't stand him. I do not think highly of the person he is. But he is far better than 'average' on the pitch.

Brendan @35.

‘All that's wrong with the game' – and you are daft enough to believe that one post from me on a random fan site is ‘right up there?'

Give your head a wobble, mate.

Wobbled head as suggested

"This lad is a rat"

Your post is still right up there nonetheless.

Wobbled head as suggested and now your hair is all over the place and you have got a head like Anthony Gordon!

Brendan at #43.

Of all the problems bedraggling modern football, you reckon my post is ‘right up there' on the scale eh?

Step away from the bar, kid. You've had enough, I'd suggest.

Re-wobble then get a grip. UTFT…apologies for the ‘F' bit…you know how sensitive you are.

I've got mates who are Toon fans who are desperate for the football world to accept that Anthony Gordon is a world-beating bargain.

When I tell them we're not arsed he left us, they go loopy insisting that we miss him. The soft cunts.

I lived up there for four years, Mark. I remember one of our Neanderthal neighbours was surprised that I supported Everton. He said…'I've never seen them as much of a threat to us!' He was 63 years old.

I couldn't bite my tongue and uttered something about the last time that they won the league the Jarrow marchers were in primary school and that very season when they were champions…Everton beat them 1-7 at home! (1926, for fuck's sake!)

They are singularly the most deluded tossers in the country…which is why the rat, Gordon, is quite at home there… until the moment someone bigger comes knocking & then he'll spit on the badge… just like he did with us.

Kiss on the "cloud" on it's way...no tongues BTW.

Keep well mate.
