Rob Halligan 11 Posted 29/05/2025 at 18:47:48 Ok Michael, # 6…..I havent got a clue what the opening thread means, so do you care to explain it to me? Les Callan 12 Posted 29/05/2025 at 19:01:01 Water Andy ? Andrew Grey 13 Posted 29/05/2025 at 19:15:04 Rob 11The clue to 15 down was:Depression? That could be Everton (3,5)I think you read it as just Depression? and the OP had suggested the answer was EvertonThe whole clue was:15 Down > Depression? That could be Everton (3,5)Note That could be Everton was part of the clue and the answer was 'The Blues' which is a description of both Everton and depression, which you probably know.I can see where your confusion lay but it seems Michael didn't and chose the insulting patronising route.Judging by some his comments today it seems Michael may not have just gotten out of the wrong side of bed but actually fell out the wrong side? Andy Crooks 14 Posted 29/05/2025 at 20:17:17 Nice post, Dennis! Michael Kenrick 15 Posted 30/05/2025 at 13:27:07 Thank you, Andrew. I thought it was a reasonable question… And it seems Rob @11 did need something more.So nice of you to step in and provide a really clear explanation. Much appreciated. Brent Stephens 16 Posted 30/05/2025 at 13:42:01 Dennis - or petillant? A small prickle. Dennis Stevens 17 Posted 30/05/2025 at 13:52:15 Interesting, Brent. I've only ever seen the term applied to wine. Preferable to brackish, no doubt. Peter Mills 18 Posted 30/05/2025 at 14:08:58 Laird Tim Taylor (8) Brian Denton 19 Posted 06/06/2025 at 00:03:52 The word Everton quite often appears in cryptic clues. I can remember as a kid in the sixties seeing a quiz in The Hornet which had a picture of a weight with '1 Ton' written on it. The clue was 'This football club always weighs the same'. Tim Taylor 20 Posted 15/06/2025 at 14:54:41 Only just caught up with this. Only posted as it made me chuckle. @Brian you're right it's not the first time. Don Alexander 21 Posted 15/06/2025 at 15:41:38 Brent and Dennis, fate/age delivered me a permanent petillant ten years ago. Michael Spear 22 Posted 15/06/2025 at 16:00:23 Another one late to this thread but not to cryptic crosswords. That said, Andy #8 please put me out of my misery and explain 'water' as the answer to your clue. And allow me to groan in peace at an obvious answer I just can't see! Brendan McLaughlin 23 Posted 15/06/2025 at 16:25:42 Michael #22H2O.Swear... I think I can hear that groan from here. Michael Spear 24 Posted 15/06/2025 at 17:04:54 Brendan, it came seconds before I logged in again to see your post! Walking the dog does help put your mind in gear… It is a belter though. Andy Crooks 25 Posted 15/06/2025 at 19:05:48 Sorry, I can't help it but this is my current favourite:Actress was less inclined to sketch Robin and Maurice Gibb, but ___? (4, 9) Tim Taylor 26 Posted 16/06/2025 at 12:13:39 @Andy - lol nice one! Michael Spear 27 Posted 18/06/2025 at 00:51:28 Andy @25. Didnt need the dogs help this time… another belter!
