Everton will go head-to-head with Sunderland in a battle to sign £4m-rated Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic according to the Scottish Sun.
The Croatian has scored 14 goals for the Glasgow side and manager Ally McCoist is resigned to losing him if teams from the Premier League come knocking.
£1.7M for Tavares

Everton will have to stump up £1.7m if they want to sign Beira Mar's highly-rated defender Yohan Tavares.
It has been reported that Everton manager David Moyes is keen on a move for the 23-year-old and was hopeful of landing him for just £500,000.
But, according to reports in Portugal, Beira Mar will not let Tavares leave unless a club meets his £1.7m minimum fee release clause in January. A club source said: "He will only leave if a club pays the clause. We are not willing to negotiate."
French defender Tavares is considered one of the brightest prospects in the Portuguese league and has attracted interest from Stuttgart and Palermo as well as Everton.
Blues linked with Northern Irish starlet

Everton are apparently rivalling Swansea City for Rory Donnelly, the highly-rated Northern Irish striking prospect.
The Welsh club had reportedly already agreed a fee with Cliftonville for the 19-year-old and Sky Sports "understand" that the Blues have also been given permission to hold talks "in the next 24 hours".
Cliftonville are expecting more interest from other clubs in the coming days as Donnelly and his advisors consider their options.

According to a report on the Mirror Football website this morning, Everton manager David Moyes is keeping a very close eye on Jeremy Perbet of Belgian side Mons, who is in prolific form.
