Talks underway over Zapata loan move to Everton

| 16/01/2023 59comments  |  Jump to last

Everton are reportedly negotiating with Atalanta over a proposed loan deal for striker Duvan Zapata.

The 31-year-old Colombian international is available this month and according to iNews correspondent Mark Douglas, the Blues are hopeful of arranging a temporary move with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Zapata is hugely experienced, having played in Argentina and four different clubs in Serie A where he has scored 107 goals in 267 games over the past decade.

He has also played 34 times for his country, scoring four times.

Zapata initially joined Atalanta on a two-year loan deal in 2018, a move that was eventually made permanent and went on to become the Italian club's highest-scoring foreign player in their history.

According to a local report in Bergamo, Atalanta are happy to let Zapata leave this month but want an obligation to buy as part of any deal whereas Everton are currently offering a €15m option.

At this rate I'm expecting a call soon.

So we're going to sign a 32-year-old for €15M?

Why not try to sign Trossard from Brighton? He had a big bust-up and is free this summer.

3 Posted 16/01/2023 at 20:40:16
Christy, latest (rumour) is he's leaving this month, been offered to Arsenal.

Christy, if you don’t ask, you don’t get! Besides, according to the BBC gossip page, Trossard has been offered to Arsenal.

My eldest son turns 40 in May, he's been kicking a ball about for a few local village teams over the years, main claim to fame scoring direct from a corner.

He plays (played) left wing, shall I give him a call, I'm sure he could turn out on Saturday!!!'

We have Vineagre and Coady.

Short of making Coady a perm or getting rid of our only LB cover, how do we loan another?

According to my quick searches it sounds like the limit for loans is two?

Neil Copeland
7 Posted 16/01/2023 at 22:02:04
Gary, the limit is for 2 from an English based team but up to a further 6 from elsewhere.

And Wolves, Bournemouth, Southampton et al are all strengthening their squads. What a circus.

Thanks Neil. Not set out clearly, but found some stuff on fifa rules that looks like you’re right.

Zapata, Danjuma, Sulemana, Ings, a right back and a left back might give us some hope….so we’ll end up with McTommy from Man U on deadline day.

Sounds nailed on this.Fits the Everton recruitment profile perfectly.
On loan, over 30,with a commitment to buy for £15 million, will probably want ( and get ) big wages and long contract.
Gives us the full set though,Tosun,Rondon and now Zapata!
Viva Zapata! Everton’s latest Kevin Campbell!

As a new fan of Everton and football in general, would it be safe to say that the January transfer window is this slow or tedious to follow? It just seems like other teams are improving and dare I say “our” team seems to be stuck in neutral (our seems brash being that I'm new to it as a fan).

I've picked an interesting year to join the fan ranks, the team certainly seems routed at the moment. However, true fans of any team find a way through the misery and dismal knowing that sun will shine again soon, right? One can hope!

Now, Kevin Campbell. Returned from a fairly disastrous spell in Turkey to become our unlikely saviour. If only that could happen again. Don't laugh, it might be our only option.

I just seen two Brazilian players signed for Premier League clubs, both around 17 mill each. Young and with good stats and ratings.

We are chasing a 32 year old who has had better days, and can’t break into his current team and we are prepared to pay 15 mill. THAT'S THE REAL CRIME.

He woud definitely be an improvement on what we currently have but only on a loan until the send of this season, at least initially.

I don't mind this one, so long as he's up for it!

He has a decent record and literal 'beggars don't have much choice' to slightly alter an old saying.

We need to be realistic on the type of players we can afford and who would be willing to join this basket case of a Club. We are probably offering payment on the never-never to Clubs rather than anything up front.

If a player has a choice, there's probably at least 15 other Premier League teams they would rather go to than us unless we pay overs in wages.

Rondon's replacement.

According to a few things I’ve seen this morning Atalanta have knocked us back for a loan so we’ve moved onto Marko Arnautivic, who has a decent goal scoring record in Italy but is 33, a fee of around £7 million been mentioned,

Arnautovic now?My god,they’re getting older!

Josh #11 what time to be(come) a fan, huh? I've been a fan since 2007, and haven't seen anything like this current state that the club is in, so.. It can only get better. I'm just still happy to support Everton regardless, it's a special club! Good luck onwards supporting it.

Forest have just signed Danilo from Palmeiras for £20m. This is a young player linked strongly with Real Madrid and expected to be a top class midfielder like Ngolo Kante.

Somehow we are now in pauper territory compared with Nottingham Forest. After a £180m spending spree, their first team and wider squad is easily as good as ours.

A fit and firing Zapata would be quite the asset. Sadly this is not a fit or firing Zapata.

What a farce this has become. Unable to compete with the likes of Bournemouth and Forest. I suspect this only ends one way.

On the basis of this signing, we should have kept Rondon, shouldn't we Bill?

32 Posted 17/01/2023 at 15:56:25
If they could be bothered to take a quick look at his injury history, it's plain to see he has muscle problems which have got worse over the years and in the past 12 months he has been injured more than he has played.

Bunch of clowns think they are running a circus.

Dave Williams

Lots of rumours but zero action and the window is already half way over.

Either we have no money to spend within P&S Rules or the board is keeping its powder dry in case we have a new manager in place before the window ends.

Other clubs are getting stronger while we sit on our hands.
In our position, we cannot afford to continue with this – act now before it is too late – it already might be, for god's sake!

Don't worry boys, we are after a defender.

Everton have joined Newcastle United in holding talks over signing 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen and Ecuador defender, Piero Hincapie, who has also been linked with Tottenham.

Dave, it's been the same theme for years, whether we had no money, some money or plenty of money.

Terrible operators in the transfer market in most types of deals, in and out.

Paul - thank the Lord for another defender. Wonder if he can score?

So what we are looking for is a prolific young striker capable of playing at premiership level. He must have a good injury record. Be ready to play straight away. Be big, strong and fast. Willing to sign for a club in crisis and fighting relegation. No other club can be intersted in him and he must be somewhere between cheap and free. I fail to see where the problem lies. There must be loads of strikers like this readily available.

Frank 35, No, So what we are looking for is an old striker incapable of playing at premiership level. He must have a poor injury record. Be unfit to play straight away. Be oversized, weak and slow. Willing to sign for a club in crisis and fighting relegation. No other club can be intersted in him and he must be somewhere between cheap and free. This I fail to see where the problem lies. Eniliano Zapata The great revolutionary who fought between 1909 and 1919, when he led the fight to restore land taken from common people during the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz.

If we get that Zapata, then maybe he will help us retake the lands and properties of Everton from the hated dictator Bill Kenwright.

and give this great club back to the people. Viva Zapata! Viva la Revolución!

Teams want money upfront. We can only agree a fiver a day for however long it takes to pay off. Hence deals like this. I'm expecting at least one free transfer too. The only other [;ace to look for players is the U23s. What a mess.

Please Bill - Go Now.

A Moody Blue.

PS: Zapata, according to TM has missed 6 games out of 18 this season and he missed 18 games last season. Mostly through Hamstring injury and other muscular issues. Maybe he's another one for the Treatment table. His goal stats are very good. Maybe too much wear and tear ?

Andrew, funny you should mention Moussa Dembele…………..

Moussa Dembélé (born 12 July 1996) is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for Premier League club Everton.

2016–2019: France U21

Id like him Paul, Has Frank got any pulling power left ? Get him in, Danjuma and then a back up / challenger for DCL and we’ve got a great chance then of staying up. The players are out there to be signed to improve us. Whether we have the cash or are attractive enough just at the moment is another thing altogether.

They’ve got a chance to be heroes if they come in and help turn it around for us.

Thanks Minik and Dave.

We will improve, some how, some way. Feel like they are just too tight. Lampard has to find a way to loosen them up a bit. Otherwise, maybe he is the problem.

Keep the faith.
