#27YearsCampaign hold first Twitter Space

Thursday, 20 January, 2022 21comments  |  Jump to last

The Twitter-based #27YearsCampaign is holding an Open Space on Twitter tonight.

The campaign's first action was to call for a controversial walk-out on 27 minutes of the Arsenal game at Goodison Park back in December to underline their objectives and concerns.

The 27YearsCampaign aims to re-assert their message and gain more trust from sceptical Evertonians. They have pooled all the opinions and different supporter groups into one, at the @27YearsCampaign Twitter account.

The campaign fully expects a lot of fans to be against the campaign and any action. It's not forcing anyone to do anything and fully respects other fans' views. It also does not want to lose Moshiri's ownership at this time; the campaign would rather work with Moshiri and develop a better relationship.

The 27YearsCampaign wants to see a change in board members, bringing in more football business-minded people rather than ex-Everton connected people "where the heart rules the head".

The Twitter Space starts at this link at 8 pm GMT. All Evertonians have been invited to join to listen and find out more about the campaign.

There have also been confirmed rumours from one supporter group, The Originals 1878, of a sit-in protest at Goodison Park after the Aston Villa game this Saturday, which the 27YearsCampaign have backed.

Too little, too late... Since when does the club take any notice of the fans? But good for you for trying.

Mark #1

Some of the main people involved are attending home and away fans, who were banned from attending Goodison for a period 10 years ago for similar protests.

So the Space became extant 8:00 sharpish on my clock Rodger Armstrong kicked things off and brought in Paul the Esk to summarize the campaign. I think there may be a text transcript of the Space...

Just listening in.

With regards to the Originals 1878, would it not be better to unite behind one campaign?

That would gather more powerful momentum surely.

I'm all for this, but if we don't present a united and unified voice, we risk a People's Front of Judea and Judean People's Front. Our voices get lost and ignored by the Romans in charge.

In essence Dave, that Moshiri is the only one who can make the decisions but needs to grow a pair and stop listening to / get rid of Kenwright and those around him. That was my take.

But in a very Scouse woman kind of way with a few mild expletives thrown in. Quality. She spoke what we think.

Reminded me of those non-negotiable ladies who won't serve me at half time at Goodison. Ask once and just leave it. Head back to your seat with your tail between your legs having been told off.

She spoke a lot more sensibly than me nana, Dave, but spoke with the same bluntness!

I find this is really hard to listen to. I see I'm not alone: the numbers peaked at 1.4k and have been steadily falling as people drop out. Down to 1.1k now...

I know people need to feel that they are involved with a campaign like this but there's a huge entitlement that comes with each of these 'stories' where the storyteller knows all about what has or hasn't been done, has better judgement than all the people in post at the club, has identified what needs to be fixed,... etc.

You just end up with a cacophony of disparate and chaotic ideas, thoughts, concerns. Of course, people need to feel they are taking part and "having their voice heard" but you need good leaders of the campaign to distil anything meaningful out of this while keeping everyone on board.

Herding cats comes to mind...

Agree Michael, anything like this needs to be coordinated and joined up. Hence my Monty Python reference earlier.

I support what they are trying to achieve, which I take as getting Moshiri to take ownership and implement a competent board.

How we, the fans, influence that is debatable as we don't have a German model, which itself is open to exploitation.

Michael, you've summed up my feelings precisely. I managed about 20 mins.

While I don't doubt the frustration that everyone felt, it was a collection of thoughts on any subject Everton and I struggled to understand what is going to constitute success for the campaign other than, you know... everything being better than it is.

Let's hope it's able to solidify into something meaningful!

Danny (9) thanks for your reply, yes Danny some Scouse ladies are worse than terrorists – you can negotiate with terrorists, as Jackie Hamilton used to say in his comic performances.

She’s probably who I got my incoherence from Dave. Agree with Michael and Graham, but I was glad I listened until the end, because I think what Paul said at the end is what this campaign should be all about.

This campaign has got to be about getting Moshiri, to speak with proper genuine Evertonians, and not just people who look to have been delegated by the club.

There are loads of questions to be asked, and if the man doesn’t want to sit down and answer them, then should he get away with continuing to make disastrous decisions because he’s got us by the bollocks, with regards to Bramley-Moore?

The 27 years has got to become more organized and also more one dimensional to achieve its goal, otherwise it’s back to Floyd, and swimming in a fishbowl, year after fucking year.

For those who may be interested the link below details the reasons why the #27 campaign is planning a sit-in following the Villa game on Saturday.

I had to drop at about half 9 last night.

However this moves forward, I'll second Tony's comment about being more organised, which is linked to my earlier comments.

There's no point having splinter groups and factions trying to achieve the same thing but not joined up. If this is the platform, then drop them and unite under this. One powerful voice will be listened to more than several noisy ones that get, well, lost in the noise and can be ignored because they're just noisy little people.

Be a united front with a clear message and a single voice. Not a disparate collection of odds and sods all trying to say the same thing, but saying it differently.

By all accounts Mr Moshiri is a man that likes/ needs to feel affection, so if it means changing strategy to achieve what needs to be done, then that’s how campaigns are won I believe!

But can he tell Heaven from Hell Tony? Or is it Floyd Moshiri?
