"Liverpool have been caught with a sucker punch.
Their first effort and PSG have scored a goal.
After so much good work from Liverpool, they didn't manage to capitalise."
So for clarity "so much good work" means playing for 10 minutes and having two shots versus PSG having one. It is hardly comparable with the sucker punch in the first leg when PSG had about 40 shots and Liverpool none over 90 Minutes not 10!

Oh to listen to some of them I was surrounded by tonight.
Apparently they were disgraceful and embarrassing according to the so called supporters. Fuck me they are entitled and haven't even been to Anfield and in some cases the city.
I don't care much for them, but it did make me smile in a smug way.
55 Posted 11/03/2025 at 23:08:53
I'm sure it was nice for them to watch the actual best keeper in the world do his stuff after all gushing about Alisson last week.

Then the VAR goes to the ref stating he feels the penalty award should be overturned. I dont think they should ever say anything other than they want to discuss some points with the ref.
Webb at least admitted they should have shown much more footage of the De Ligt pulls. As it was, the ref had already made up his mind to change the decision by the time they gave him the first, really poor, view of what De Ligt did. He gave it a glance and had simply stopped looking at the screen by the time they gave him the second view.
Webb gave it a final ‘gloss by saying he thought the ref would not have stayed with his original decision even if he had viewed the De Ligt pulling in full, but that is not the point is it.
At least 2 penalties given at weekend where a glancing blow on one leg caused instant paralysis in the other and a whole body spasm! So much reaction to a foul is simulation how can they single out Ashley Youngs over-reaction as somehow negating being clearly held-back?
Do the same to anyone getting away from you anywhere else on the pitch and you get an automatic yellow.

Only caught about 30 mins of the game (in between watching 'the greatest match in the history of the galaxy') but he looked a player. Derby fans very impressed.
72 Posted 12/03/2025 at 08:50:18
Good to see him finally doing well and getting a crack Liam. I liked what I saw of Armstrong in the glimpses we got. I was a bit concerned for him when about a week after he arrived there, they sacked their manager.
Hopefully history will repeat itself and he can come back to Everton ready to be part of the first team squad. Way back when, a good friend of mine who has always supported Derby, told me how much they liked Leon Osman and wanted his loan to turn in a permanent deal. Let's hope that Armstrong continues to impress. Not just the Derby setup, but Everton, who I trust are monitoring his progress.
Apologies for not watching the U21s too much. What's happening with Dixon?
73 Posted 12/03/2025 at 09:35:26
Does anyone think they could still go to pieces and drop away completely——Obviously they are not as good as the media think they are, lets do them at Anfield and be part of their downfall!

I'll try to take in Villa tonight. If Arsenal have any sense, they'll make a few changes as their match against PSV is a dead rubber. The Madrid derby looks close.
No European football tomorrow evening. I'm going to take in Bromley v Walsall in League 2. Should be a good night out and I'll probably enjoy it more!!

'Mr Henry, you really need to invest a little bit more on signing players to allow Arne to do substitutions properly. You can't keep relying on the same starting XI to run the challenge to become triple or even quadruple champions'
It must be hard only making 6 subs who cost in excess of £200M. Entitlement beyond words.
82 Posted 12/03/2025 at 12:48:19
He has 2 years left on his contract so probably won't leave in summer but he really should be on loan somewhere.
This hasn't been a good season for him from a development point of view.

Double hit, no score. Not sure I agree with VAR there.
But Real Madrid go through – just! – to meet Arsenal.
Carlo marches on!
95 Posted 12/03/2025 at 22:50:15
Anyway, at least Atletico Madrid know how weve felt down the years…….cheated by your ghastly neighbours, or rather the referees favouring the so called superior neighbour.

97 Posted 13/03/2025 at 08:31:42
I don't gamble, especially on football, but with Cheltenham on, I topped up the betting App I have. I got a super-boost for Real and Villa to win at 16-1. Real messed it up, because it they didn't do it in normal time.
Back to the horses and my cautious £1 each way flutters!!!
98 Posted 13/03/2025 at 08:34:09
Atletico would have had a real good chance of going all the way and winning the Champions League if it weren't for that disallowed penalty.
99 Posted 13/03/2025 at 14:32:25
This is taking things a stage further imo, with regards VAR, a sickening decision, outrageous really and I can't believe there wasn't a riot inside that stadium last night.
I now have a very genuine respect for all those Athletico fans, because I might have only been watching on television but you could feel the atmosphere coming right through into my living room, and how they held it together at the end amazed me.
If this isn't taken further then football should no longer be called a sport, well not at the very top of the game anyway.
100 Posted 13/03/2025 at 15:05:38
I found it embarrassing that these superstars like Mbappe and Bellingham were jumping around holding 2 fingers up and then celebrating when it got disallowed.
I suppose it doesn't matter how you win, as long as you do.
101 Posted 13/03/2025 at 15:16:15
It's not quite rigged (although you do wonder) but it's certainly not fair.
Various football rules changes (number of subs), technical changes (PSR) etc all reinforce this. The media which makes money off the back of it all helps to validate it all.
Comments like "the striker just has to be stronger in that situation - not a penalty" for the underdog - and "you just can't make contact in the box like that - penalty " for the favourite. I can even hear Ray Houghton say these words as I'm typing...
And the use of VAR and refereeing reinforces it. Personally I find La Liga refereeing almost breathtakingly biased in favour of Real and Barca.
102 Posted 13/03/2025 at 16:06:55
I remember being a child and watching a ‘world in action' type show, where the great Brazilian footballer Socrates (he was to me when I was 12 – the chain smoking genius!) alluded to the game being very corrupt, and this was 43 years ago.
Liverpool went out, they mustn't have wanted Real Madrid, to go out as well, although Socrates was scathing of FIFA because he thought they gave Brazil a much easier passage, because there was thousands of Brazilians spending money in Spain, so they wanted to keep them there longer.
Remember the Brazilian Ronaldo playing in the World Cup final in France despite being unwell because they reckoned Nike paid that much sponsorship money, they demanded it?
You know me, Robert, I'm a bit cynical towards this very money obsessed world. But I honestly think if Liverpool get to the Champions League Final, those black market tickets go through the roof, and a lot of Uefa officials can get their hands on those very expensive tickets before they have even been sold.
The Liverpool v Tottenham game being even too expensive for a lot of drug dealers, was the shout going around as prices on the black market hit £10,000. But going back to last night's game, if that was Everton gleefully accepting that penalty being disallowed (except anyone but Liverpool!) once the dust had settled, I genuinely would have been disgusted.
103 Posted 13/03/2025 at 19:31:33
My Chelsea supporting cousin was telling me earlier that Chelsea were struggling to sell tickets at £65 for tonight's match against Copenhagen, so have reduced them to £35.

A caller to local radio station belted out "When it's spring again, I'll bring to you 5 goals from Amsterdam!"
