Everton linked with Wesley and Brooke Norton-Cuffy
Everton have been linked with two players - Wesley and Brooke Norton-Cuffy - in the final few days of the winter transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Toffees are keen on signing Genoa’s right-back Norton-Cuffy. The 22-year-old has a contract with the Serie A outfit until 2029, but a decision could be made regarding his future in this window.
“Brooke Norton-Cuffy could leave Genoa before the end of the January window. Clubs have re-started calling, Everton and one more Premier League clubs while Serie A sides are also keen,” Romano posted on X.
Norton-Cuffy came up through the Arsenal youth system and also had a spell at Chelsea. He has gone on several loans to Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Coventry City and Millwall and left Emirates Stadium without making a first-team appearance for the first-time to join Genoa permanently in 2024.
Since then, he has made 22 appearances for the Italian side in all competitions and has registered a goal and an assist.
The right-back slot has been a bit of a problem position for the Blues with centre-back Jake O’Brien forced to delegate. While Nathan Patterson has been solid in recent games, with O’Brien moving to the centre to replace the suspended Michael Keane, his overall record remains unreliable.
The injury to Jack Grealish might force Everton to bring in another forward and the name of Wesley has come up. Reports emerging out of Brazil suggest that the Toffees are interested in the Al Nassr forward.
Bruno Andrade of ESPN Brazil reports that the "winger is in advanced negotiations with Everton of England and is expected to join the Premier League team during this transfer window."
Wesley has made 40 appearances for Al Nassr, scoring five goals and five assists since joining the club in 2024.

He has made 22 appearances for the Italian side in all competitions and has registered a goal and an assist. Should it be added -- but in those 22 games, Genoa have conceeded 57 goals compared to 23 in the previous 22?
Would we want to sign any of these players?
A 30-year-old centre-back with 428 appearances but just 2 goals.
A 30-year-old left-back with 373 appearances and 6 career goals, the last of which was over 4 years ago at his previous club.
A 28-year-old right-back with 275 appearances and 4 goals.
Yes or No? I suspect, with current thinking, the answer is No.
If so, please now identify the players.

If the Wesley transfer is not correct, it won't give the ESPN reporter and kudos if it doesn't come off after a statement like that.
And yes, there must be a decent right back out there somewhere before the window closes.

I get your point. A defender's job must be to first defend. But in the modern game, the full-backs need to have attacking threat.
I give up on the players you mentioned, but I suspect they are Everton legends?

I am not excited by any of the other players we have been linked with except John Durhan.
As far as RBs go we should wait to get Wan Bissaka when West Ham get relegated.

My daughter who's 8 knows we need a RB !!
So every agent and their dog will be flogging any RB who's not happy, looking to move, out of favour or just after a payday to Everton.
I don't belive 90% of the transfer rumours!
Checked sky transfer centre yesterday after a few clubs made signing, it's a constantly updating blogg the last Everton update was 2 days earlier, so we are either inactive in the window or we are doing some in the shadows ninja style dealings.
I tend to think the former rather than the latter !

Id prefer we go for a prospect who could be amazing rather than looking to pick up a busted-flush like Wan-Bissaka who will only be available if his comfortable London existence is threatened by West Hams relegation.

Kinner in whom we mistrust has promised us in yet more smokescreen that we will only sign erm 'exceptional' players.

My fear is any player we buy will sit on the bench and be brought on in the 88th minute.
