Warrant issued for Pienaar's arrest

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Steven Pienaar after the player failed to notify authorities of the identity of the driver of his Aston Martin DBS caught speeding twice in 11 days in October last year.

The 30-year-old, who scored Everton's fourth goal in the dramatic draw against Manchester United yesterday, failed to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court today and has been issued the warrant with provisions for him to then receive bail to appear in court to hear sentencing.

In addition, Pienaar faces a driving ban as each offence carries a minimum of six penalty points.

It appears that notices were sent to Pienaar's old address in Epping, which he vacated when moving back to Everton in January.

Meanwhile, John Foley, the man who handcuffed himself to a goalpost as a protest at RyanAir during Everton's home win over Manchester City in January, has been banned from attending football matches for three years.

He has also been fined £300 and been ordered to pay £350 in legal costs.

Update: South African website, < a href="http://www.kickoff.com/news/28112/steven-pienaar-warrant-withdrawn.php" target="_blank">KickOff.com, say that the warrant has been withdrawn and the issue is in the hands of Pienaar's lawyer.

The midfielder was apparently unaware of the charges, having moved back to Merseyside when he re-joined Everton in January.
