Everton announce participation in 2021 Florida Cup

Wednesday, 2 June, 2021 53comments  |  Jump to most recent

Everton have revealed plans to travel to the United States this summer to face Arsenal, Inter Milan and Colombian giants Millonarios in the 2021 Florida Cup.

The tournament, to be held at Orlando's 65,000-capacity Camping World Stadium, will take place between 25-28 July.

The Blues will take on Millonarios on Sunday 25 July, with Arsenal facing Serie A holders Inter on the same day.

The two winners will then vie for the Florida Cup trophy on finals day, Wednesday 28 July, with the two remaining clubs facing off in a third-place play-off.

As well as participating in the Florida Cup, a series of exciting engagement events with US-based fans and Supporters' Clubs are planned for the July visit — the Blues' first to the country for pre-season since participating in the International Champions Cup in 2013. More information on these supporter events will be communicated in the coming weeks.

UK-based fans are advised not to book travel or accommodation until leisure travel to the United States is permitted. Official Club travel packages from the UK to the USA will be subject to government travel restrictions and, as such, are not currently available. Should the option for leisure travel become available, more information on official Club travel packages will be communicated.

Information about television broadcasting and how to stream the games will be confirmed in due course.

The last time we played decent opponents in pre-season was Martinez's record points tally wasn't it?

Surely Blackburn and Hibs are better preparation for a PL season, right?

Andrew as a season ticket holder at both Clubs I can assure you us Hibees would happily roll over to give our lads a false sense of security
Not too sure about Blackburn though?
Love preseason away games and I'll be there if possible only enjoyable part of the season to be honest!

So excited... especially after the catastrophe of yesterday. What a crappy day. Back to the US. Add to the list of Columbus, Salt Lake City, LA and San Fran. With a top notch couch at the helm. Please. A Colombian team.. Hmm. Will James be there?? I have my doubts.

I'm in. Have my house in Davenport just to the southwest of Orlando. Far enough away from the madness and a nice part of the state with good access to Tampa, one of my favourite US cities.

What, no trip to Austria to play a team from the third tier then a quickie against Arbroath?

Sounds great. Was expecting some behind closed doors nonsense against second tier German sides. Or 60 minute matches played one after another again. Pleasantly surprised for a change!

Rob, That's very kind of Danny to invite us all round, we might even chip in for the beer too, can't let him buy everything, unless he insists!

Do I hear Jamie Crowley in the background singing " Football's Coming Home "? :-)

Long overdue.

Note "Orlando's 65,000-capacity Camping World Stadium". Can't wait for Everton's 52,000 (and a bit) capacity BMD stadium to showcase matches.

Are you going? My God daughter is in Orlando. We are overdue for a visit. I tried to put in the PTO request today but evidently some of my employees are already off that week. Technically I have seniority but I'm not enough of an ass hole to screw their vacation plans so I can watch Everton. Although, God forgive me I was tempted.

Just booked a week's timeshare for that week in Orlando and will be driving down from North Carolina. Last time we were over in Miami, I was living in South Florida, so this one's going to be a bit more of a trek. I've spoken with a bunch of other fans from a number of the local supporters groups and there seems there's going to be a whole load of blues there for the games from all over the country. Now I just have to make sure I get a ticket!

I think that I might drive down for this, not least if there's a bunch of name-recognition US toffee-webbers planning to do the same. We need to get in a huddle and console each other.

I also missed Jamie last time, so need to make this happen.
Jamie, maybe we can find a way to talk about this?

I got COVID cabin fever and the brand new turbo Golf in November 2018 - license plate EVERTON - has just 12000 miles on it so it deserves some driving.

Actually, this is starting to sound exciting given everything else that is on the boil

Mind you if Ginger-Minge - frozen peas - readers digest is always a reliable read - the kirk book of discipline - tasty boiled tatties - large greying y-fronts - is in charge I'm deffo not coming.

Hope this happens.

I'm definitely going to look at flights. Will wait for the UK Government's decision on travel this afternoon.

I can sleep 10 . inside. There's a pool with decking though!

House is technically in Davenport but the actual area is known as Four Corners, near Champion's Gate Golf Resort for those who know the area.

I don't play Golf!

Kieran, I lived there for about 8 years, in between Fort Myers and Naples right down in the bottom SW corner. Absolutely stunning part of the World with some of the best white sand beaches you'll ever see. But being an ex-pat, my body wasn't designed for that summer heat and moved to a slightly cooler environment. My parents were the most upset as they enjoyed their little jaunts over for extended periods.

By the looks of the ticketing, they've reserved two sections for Everton fans, but I'll imagine that will fill up pretty quickly.

You'll be there. Moyes or no Moyes. Epecially when you realise Its a double whammy lad

And if TGT does get the gig. You can always be the founder member of MOB 11

I accept that I might be in the minority here, but I want to voice my disappointment at our club for agreeing to play in a tournament in a place that has just banned transgender athletes from competing in sports. Despite their being no evidence to support the claims they made to justify the ban. Everton has always been at the forefront for inclusivity in sport and this is a huge kick in the teeth to every LGBTQ+ supporter.

Our last US tour was the start of the shining of Bobby's shoes and Stones scoring a winning panenka penalty.

Sadly the bright lights fizzled out fast but here's hoping to the start of some brighter, longer lasting, positive Everton memories for next season and beyond. Enjoy!

Paul Birmingham

Until the new manager is in place, realistically who knows, what this preseason will be?

Seriously great to happen, at any time doing a USA preseason tour, or anywhere, and no disrespect, but there's priorities, and the club has arguably the most unfit set of footballers in the EPL, the last two years at least and more.

Pedestrian press has evolved from the extra slow waltz, but getting a squad in place for next season is the priority.

The best good marketing deal regardless of location, will not save the next season from being another poxy transition season and struggle with relegation, unless there's a massive unprecedented support plan from Everton FC.

The base boards fell out the team this season in October 2020, and from January 2021, effective collapse, and in my view the disposition of Carlo, looking back on many facts, goes back to the RS Cup defeat, 12 months hence, other private matters which are not football related.

But the garbage bar a 5 or 6 games, in season 2020-2021, where Everton turned up, has been a massive disappointment.

Never in all the years have an Everton team, totally screwed their best and best supported chance, in terms of rival teams screw ups, to fail to qualify for Europe.

This seasons home form at GP, the worst in Everton history, and a massive ego dent seemingly, to Carlo, has perhaps, forced his hand and his book of morals, means only to him.

He craps out with a pathetic cop out clause! What's is loyalty, and what is honour, and what is meaning?

Great footballers don't mean great managers. Ancelloti, in his era, was not close to or never would be close to, Scirea,, Fachetti, Tardelli, or Maldini.

They are immortals in football terms?

Johan Cruyff, for me is the best footballer and made some success as a manager.

There's been too many gung ho crap shows, since BBS lef Everton, it's been the same start, close and review, every season since.

The Italian Job can't be underestimated in the impact to the club, the mentality and psyche of Everton. The timing of this defection, couldnt have been worse.

My view only, but Everton this time can't afford any mborc, and dodgy fuck off clauses from dodgy Sphagetti Western extra Sheriffs, whom have blagged it as football managers.

Serious shit potential awaits next season, and being honest, who backs the board any more at G P, in respect to football matters?

Each to their own, but what has this cowardly defection, left Everton's marketing and commercial enterprises that were planned, and what are any early termination charges, impacts, on the commercials to the start of BMD?

We as supporters won't get told a wink, but knowing Everton, this could be another masquerade.

But the love of life and Everton, means we live in hope eternal, but in the mushroom farm, and seemingly recurring blag circus of Everton.

The club needs to take a serious look at the damage, generally self inflicted, the last 30 years, and it's long term serious concern, that making up the numbers and long term acceptance of mediocrity, is acceptable.

No business anywhere, on those acceptances can survive and grow.

Oh, and regarding this Everton to Florida thing, I'll be there.

Now listen all TWers here's the thing. Last time I went I reached out to a few of you and met no one.

This time it simply must be different. I will buy the first 10 TWers that meet me beers. I will probably be blind drunk, and one of my boys will need to drive, but that's one of the joys of having so many sons.

If anyone wants to make plans to meet up, Lyndon has permission to hand out my email like it was candy. I don't care.
