Five out-of-favour players worth loan enquiries
Everton are facing serious squad surgery this summer with mass outgoings leading to a large rebuild. Finding value will be key to the recruitment team and the loan market is one that will be assessed thoroughly.
We’ve profiled five out-of-favour players who could be loan opportunities for Everton this summer.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Chelsea)
Chelsea continue to stockpile talent at an absurd rate. Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens are the latest names set to join a squad bursting at the seams, with casualties sure to follow.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a name that should interest Everton. The 26-year-old followed Enzo Maresca from Leicester to Chelsea last summer but struggled to get a look in after his £30m move.
Though a regular in the club’s Europa Conference League triumph, he started just twice in the Premier League. With a Cole Palmer-sized roadblock to a first-choice role and Joao Pedro set to beef up the competition further, an exit looks sensible for Dewsbury-Hall in the peak years of his career.
With goal threat from midfield, he could be the ideal replacement for the departed Abdoulaye Doucoure and competition for Charly Alcaraz. A try-before-you-buy loan could make sense for all parties.
Joao Palhinha (Bayern Munich)
Joao Palhinha is another whose high-profile move has not panned out as planned. A ball-winning monster during two seasons at Fulham, he has failed to convince Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich.
He made just six Bundesliga starts and needs minutes to retain his place in the Portugal set-up. Having topped the Premier League for tackles in successive seasons, a return to England could appeal.
Richarlison (Tottenham)
A romantic return or a backwards step? The jury is perhaps out. Richarlison retains plenty of admiration at Everton and has shown his mutual appreciation for the Blues since leaving for Spurs.
The transfer to North London has been a disappointment with injuries and inconsistency punctuating his time at Tottenham. His injury record of late is a concern, but 15 goals from 22 starts over the last two seasons is a respectable record. With next season a World Cup year and places up for grabs with Brazil, the 28-year-old needs assurances over his club role.
James McAtee (Manchester City)
Heavily linked with a move to Merseyside, James McAtee has reached the stage where he needs a first-team role. The 22-year-old returned to Manchester City last summer after two seasons on loan and scored seven times in 27 appearances across all competitions.
However, the arrival of Rayan Cherki has pushed him further down the pecking order and McAtee will have watched as former City teammates Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and Romeo Lavia have thrived since leaving the Etihad. Having just captained the England U-21 to European Championship success, a move looks on the agenda for McAtee.
Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal)
Mikel Arteta just loves signing defenders and Cristhian Mosquera is the next name set to be added to Arsenal’s options.
The Spaniard’s arrival will leave the Gunners with eight senior options capable of playing centre-back - and something’s got to give. Jakub Kiwior impressed in the absence of Gabriel last season and his versatility is something that appeals.
With Michael Keane’s future undecided and support for Vitalii Mykolenko missing, Kiwior’s arrival could kill two birds with one stone.

Need a couple of loans, a couple of frees, and some real talent in for pre-season training. If only...

And all these new guys who have just come through the door, aren't they supposed to be the transfer gurus?

Arsenal just bought goalkeeper Kepa from Chelsea for £5M, he cost Chelsea £71M.
Here is a long list for you to ponder, care of the BBC.

22 starts in the last two seasons does NOT sound repectable to me.

You need to have planned well in advance prior to transfer window, especially one requiring the personnel we need.

Jhon Duran is on £330k a week — tax free! If he comes back to anyone in Europe, he faces a massive tax bill as he has to stay in Saudi for 2 years to escape European taxes, the poor lad.
What's going on in Saudi? Six months Jhon Duran has been at Al Ansari.

But with now having a hierarchy responsible for contacting agents, talking to players and negotiating contracts that just sat at their desks today, he might have to wait until they find out where the coffee machine and bogs are located and got comfortable in their chairs.
So I expect posts tomorrow of "why haven't these recruitment and contract experts we brought in signed any of Moyes targets on their first day of work?"

- Right back
- Right wing / forward
Although both McAtee and Dewsbury-Hall are good players who seem "very Everton" - we already have McNeil and Alcaraz in their positions. They therefore seem like unlikely signings.
Kiwior will probably (and understandably) want to go somewhere to be first choice - and that is Branthwaite's position.
Richarlison might be a good solution on loan since he can play anywhere across the forward line and we need depth / options.
Palhinha is a really good player - and we lack a quality sitting midfielder of that type. However, I would have thought a younger model like Ugochukwu of Chelsea would be a more likely loan target for us (or Lavia, Renato Veiga, Amougo, Andre Santos or Essugo all of Chelsea who play in that defensive(ish) midfield position).
It's unbelievable how big Chelsea's squad is.

And generally you only have to be out of any country for 184 days for you to become non-resident for tax purposes.
So 6 months in Saudi should see him able to meet that non-resident requirement.

So for right now the signing team is just Moyes, Kinnear and Nick Hammond.
Anybody expecting us to explode out of the starting blocks and sign a bunch of players this window -- let alone this week -- is dreaming.
Geoff #4, Davey ain't dithering. He's put in offers to Tete and Barry, secured Alcaraz and Coleman and (rumor has it) Gana, opened negotiations with Branthwaite and Keane, and presumably spent a lot of time dickering with Calvert-Lewin. It's not like the man is spending his days at a beach bar in Teneriffe. He be workin' it.

Our other issue is money. Let's say we earmark a freebie or loan right-back which gives us X to spend on a forward and a right winger, if we have to buy a right-back, then that's less to spend on those other positions.
My preference would be striker first, then right-winger, then full-back. There's so many variables, it will take time.

How the Premier League can say we had an on-pitch advantage from the Ukraine war etc, whilst Chelsea can sell non football assets to fund a football squad that would embarrass an American football team.
Still no sight of the 115 charges either against Man City...

I can think of one club. Guess!

At the recent Premier League AGM in Harrogate on 4 June 2025, a proposal to prevent clubs from including profits from the sale of fixed assets (like hotels or training grounds) to related companies in PSR calculations did not proceed to a formal vote due to insufficient support among the 20 clubs. The proposal required a two-thirds majority (14 out of 20 clubs) to pass but fell short, with only 11 clubs supporting it.
Apparently those against change might want to benefit from the rules as they are and in the same way as Chelsea.

I'd bet on TFG having already figured that out.
21 Posted 01/07/2025 at 19:04:44
A Zinchenko-type player that could play full back or midfield is needed. Surely a couple of utility players knocking about.
22 Posted 01/07/2025 at 20:46:42
- will we re-sign Keane and/or Gana?
- are Harrison Armstrong and Harry Tyrer ready?
So to be competent, we would need (in no priority order)
- a senior goalkeeper to help Tyrer
- a left-back to cover for Mykolenko because he will be injured again because of his style of play.
- a centre-back if Keane does not sign or Branthwaite leaves. Keane is a good cover if he does not have to play constantly.
- a right-back. Here we have almost nothing because Patterson did not make it and Seamus will play maybe 5 games again next season.
- a defensive midfielder, we need four and we got Gana(?), Garner and Iroegbunam. At least one solid experienced player is needed.
- Right winger, as both of them left.
- Striker, since we lost Calvert-Lewin. There is only Beto, who works hard but uses only his right leg and can't pass. He is too predictable.
It is obvious that we won't get all of those but most of them would be fine. We had fourth best defense last season but also fourth worst attack.
If we can add the right persons, this coming season might be a good one. It's been a while...
23 Posted 01/07/2025 at 20:52:12
That includes Armstrong, but not Gana and Keane.

You can cross him off the list.

Dewsbury-Hall is a very good footballer who deserves to be playing regularly for a decent Premier League club.
Chukwuemeka has massive potential, and although he may go back to Dortmund on loan for another season I think he'd be a shrewd addition to our squad.
I also have an inkling that Samuel Rak-Sakyi might breakthrough if sent on loan somewhere next season, although he'd be a big risk for us to take.
Having watched a fair bit of the recent Under 19 Euros I was also going to suggest a lumpy bid for the Dutch playmaker Kees Smit - who is going to be very special indeed; sadly the Real Madrids of this world are already lining him up though.
30 Posted 01/07/2025 at 21:52:56
Was Milan captain but fell out with the coach, going to bologna on loan.
Won 2 cups this season and has won Serie A. Plays regularly, doesn't look to have past injury issues.
Worth a look.

A particularly striking case is that of Jordan Henderson, a player rumoured to be presented with a whopping £700,000 per week tax-free deal by the Saudi Pro League. However, to behold such a treasure chest, he would need to anchor himself in the Middle East for close to 2 years.
The tax rules stipulate that Britons leaving to work overseas must remain absent from their home turf for a full tax year, or part with a daunting 45 per cent of their earnings upon early return.
Past cases highlight the potential pitfalls. Mirko Vučinić, former Juventus player, was pursued for €15.85 million by Italian authorities for earnings while playing for Al Jazira in Abu Dhabi. His case clearly demonstrated the need to break home residency while playing abroad.

Hamas has now disproved the notion that governance would deter its terrorism; rather, it must be viewed as a group that can not only carry out standard terrorist attacks, but also deploy hundreds of fighters in coordinated attacks. Its goals are now undeniable as well: the group is not focused on ending Israeli occupation or achieving a two-state solution, but rather on destroying Israel and creating its vision of an Islamic state in all of historic Palestine. Gaza is run by murdering evil, pure and simple. Israel is no clean slate as far as barbaric acts go, name a country in it's hystory that is not guilty of crimes against humanity. The idots in this country are like sheep, tell them which way to go and they follow, hence the shite musicians, and talentless prats they look up to. Gaza is controlled by Hamas, don't defend Gaza as they allowed the scum in via Iran.

Thousands dead..many woman and children and your take is:
"Seems you can slice it both ways"
What ever way you slice it... it's just wrong.

"A million reasons"...but the IDF who are firing on starving Palestinians scrambling for aid...not so much.
Who doesn't allow foreign journalists into Gaza?
Why do you think that is?
50 Posted 02/07/2025 at 03:57:32
A foreigner coming to work in UK will not have to pay tax on previous earnings elsewhere prior to arriving.
In Henderson's case, he can take a 6-month holiday somewhere and then return to UK and will not have to pay tax.
Nowhere is 2 years mentioned.
52 Posted 02/07/2025 at 23:36:24
If there's one thing Beto isn't, it's predictable!
