Webb gift hands Everton a point

Sunderland 1 - 1 Everton
A typical teamsheet selection for the trip to Sunderland featuring the misfiring Cahill and Saha, who missed great early opportunities, only to see Everton all too predictably give up the first goal. Substitute Colback's shot was heading for Howard's hands but Distin, the only change to the side, sliding in deflected it over Howard and into the net.

Drenthe had a good shot that was touched wide. But five first-half corners came to nothing, other than a hopeless stooping header from Saha, all alone with plenty of time at the far post.

No changes at half-time, of course, and Howard had to be sharp to deprive Sessegnon of a shot. But a bizarre decision from Howard Webb gifted Everton a penalty when Osman stubbed his toe and Baines absolutely lashed it home to put Everton back in it.

Saha, in defence came so close to heading a Sunderland corner into his own net. He was given 83 unproductive minutes before Vellios replaced him. Distin came close on a last-minute corner but another 'cameo' appearance for McFadden at the end summed up another dire Everton display of unincisive football that incredibly yielded a draw that will nevertheless have Moyes touting an away point gained.

Barkley was 'rested' on the bench for yet another game, despite having now signed his long-term contract... a game when both Fellini and Rodwell are out. It can't do his confidence any good knowing that when Everton are down to the bare bones, Moyes would rather play a couple of defenders in midfield ahead of him.
