The Friedkin Group may turn to Frank Lampard at AS Roma
There are suggestions that Frank Lampard is among those being considered by The Friedkin Group to replace AS Roma coach Ivan Juric after another loss suffered at the weekend.
TFG have not had a smooth ride during their time in charge of the Serie A side who currently sit in 11th place with 13 points from their first 11 games, with scrutiny intensifying on the man brought in just weeks ago.
This follows hostility from the fans when TFG sacked club legend Daniele de Rossi after just a handful of games at the start of this season.
Asked about conceding 8 goals in consecutive away games (a 5-1 defeat at Fiorentina and a 3-2 defeat a Hellas Verona), Juric admitted:

“It was embarrassing in Florence and it has nothing to do with tonight’s game [in Verona]. It was a complete disaster and I accepted it as just that.
Since that day, there’s been a brilliant reaction. Even before that game, we’d been working well, but we have been making mistakes that are hard to explain. The first goal is an example and the second is a foul…
“We did score twice and carve out plenty of chances plus a series of sustained attacks. We’re paying the price.
“Sometimes, I think football is just like that. We have to stay clear-headed, see what we’re doing and raise our level of focus. Having said that, it’s not just about focus because these mistakes are too big.”
Meanwhile, the takeover of Everton by The Friedkin Group is believed to be progressing toward approval from the Premier League, FA and Financial Conduct Authority.

Does this club ever get any good news? Are our new owners really so utterly clueless? If they appoint Lampard, I think we should all just go and find something else to do at the weekend.

It could be worse, mate, they might decide to bring Frank back to Goodison, just in time to play all the heavy hitters in December.

Gawd I hope this isn't some kind of glance into the new Everton owner's mindset.

I hope they aren't more of the same in terms of Moshiri, just appointing "names".
I'd love to see us go down the road of a Bournemouth or Brighton, find me a positive up and coming manager that wants to develop a team.
I get sick of the tired old Everton philosophical of never breaking the fashion of needing a big Number 9 and no other style will be contemplated.
It's hardly brought much success in the modern era.

I know I bitch a lot about the headlines but this one from the Echo is despicable:
Friedkin Group 'considering' Frank Lampard appointment as Everton takeover wait continues
No mention of Roma, so of course you assume they mean Everton.

I truly hope you are miles wrong with your thoughts because they (TFG) most certainly would be starting off on the wrong foot at Everton then. I wouldn't wish it on Roma either as it would show one big mistake after another, wouldn't it?
If any of this had a scintilla of truth from the Red Echo, my thoughts about them would take a nosedive immediately. It has got to be a wind up or is it just clickbait?

When I referred to The Red Echo I wasn't commenting on them being a truthful, responsible or readable rag. No. I think they are absolute rubbish whose credibility is already zero so therefore can't take a nosedive.
I apologise if anyone got the wrong impression.

It's not a given, and probably all bullshit.

13 Posted 04/11/2024 at 16:59:58
It makes no difference If what The Echo says is true.
The bullshit worrying thing is that they are considering Lampard in the first place. Are they nuts?
14 Posted 04/11/2024 at 17:12:31
And God help Everton if this is an indication of TFG's tactical nouse!

I bet Sean doesn't have a passport.

I remember the old training ground at Bellefield, and getting given cheese on toast from the tea lady who was one of my mate's mother. But when I went into Finch Farm last season, it had all changed and the food wouldn't have been out of place in a seven-star hotel.
I wasn't that hungry but I ended up having some sea bass and salad, and it was definitely better than anything I've ever encountered in the five-star hotels I've been fortunate enough to stay in. But I preferred the old Bellefield if I'm being honest, because everyone seemed a lot closer in those days.
Talking about hotels has just reminded me of one of Brian Clough's team talks. Playing at Bramhall Lane one night, the changing rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious, and Clough, who I'm sure had been on the whisky, started rambling.
"Look at this here, it's like a five-star hotel, so get out there tonight and play like a fuckin five-star hotel!"
It's not rocket science, is it? And that man was rightly called a footballing genius for his incredible achievements.

Would be good if we were able to find out who those people close to Everton are, Tony, so we could move them further away.
22 Posted 05/11/2024 at 08:53:55
But if this story is even remotely true, then whoever is advising Friedkin surely won't be around for long!
23 Posted 05/11/2024 at 09:04:51
I appreciate that times and diets have changed, with the advent of Sports Science, but I just wonder if the pampering inside the gates of Finch Farm goes too far.
Can't beat a poached or scrambled eggs for a pre-match meal. Maybe I'm getting old!!!
24 Posted 05/11/2024 at 09:19:25
It's a low bar, but that'd be progress for us.
25 Posted 05/11/2024 at 11:01:58
I don't know about the players' prematch meal, but it feels like half the Goodison crowd are on sleeping tablets, that's how bad it has become watching us recently.
26 Posted 05/11/2024 at 12:23:37
If that defence did not work for de Rossi, what hope has Sean Dyche got??????
27 Posted 05/11/2024 at 15:36:17
Once our takeover goes through I can't see Dyche lasting too long unless a miracle has happened and we are in the top half of the table.
Not too sure if there are any decent managers out there who would be interested in coming to us, but we do need to be looking for a more positive-minded coach who will actually get a team and style on the pitch to make everyone look forward to a match day and not dread it every week.
Maybe some of our more knowledgeable contributors can start putting some names forward so we can all enjoy checking them out and put together our wish list.

Then, after his first full pre-season with the squad, he started the season with a front-foot, possession-based, multi-chance creation comparatively expansive game plan!
We battered teams in terms of chances and possession but kept losing to late sucker-punch soft goals.
Had the footballing gods smiled on us and we had Viktor Gyökeres up front instead of our goal-shy forwards, we would perhaps be loving the style and results.
I think Dyche concluded, rightly, we lack the quality to play that way successfully and so, rather than look pretty and get relegated, we needed to be hard to beat and grind out games.
Allardyce got us to 8th come May in his season. Pretty ain't effective unless you have the quality we don't have. In future, post-takeover, we can start to progress in every way.
Until then, I believe Sean Dyche is truly prefect for us.
All we need to do is keep faith, but I realise that most fans now are very happy to knife the leader and think the grass is greener with a newbie Everton manager in this, our final season at Goodison Park. I think that is crazy and flawed thinking. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course.
29 Posted 05/11/2024 at 20:52:11
In our situation, with several players injured, several others feeling their way into the league, and others struggling for form, sacking the manager at this stage will probably make things worse.
There is certainly no guarantee a new manager will improve matters. The clarion cries for Potter can be heard but nothing in his CV suggests he is suited to what is a fire-fighting job.
I think results will improve as the season progresses. Unlike some, I do not believe December will be a write-off. Indeed it may be just what the players and the fans need.

I liked him as a person and he was a good speaker for the club but he was clueless as he was in all the teams he's managed. I can't see what on earth would qualify him to manage Roma.

Years ago, I was invited to a seminar on how to deal with the press. The main thing that came out was that journalists and editors are lazy bastards who look for the easiest way to fill up column inches!
