The final Round of 32 games take place this evening, including a match-up between world champions Argentina and World Cup debutants Cape Verde.
Cape Verde held Spain in the group stage and three consecutive draws have booked the African nation a glamour tie with Lionel Messi and Co.
It's just the six goals for Messi in two-and-a-bit games so far, with Argentine genius out to prove he's still the world's best at the ripe old footballing age of 39. However, in his path will be 40-year-old Cape Verde shot-stopper Vozinha, whose Instagram following has rocketed to over 17m after his heroics this summer.
First up on Friday's schedule is Australia against Egypt. The latter have reached the World Cup knockouts for the very first time, despite dominating at continental level.
In the early hours for UK audiences, James Rodriguez, Yerry Mina, and Colombia take on Ghana.

Aussie goal should have been crossed off. ONeill cheated by moving the ball forward behind the refs backâŠâŠbit like that bastard McAllister did for the R/S all those years ago when he scored in the last minute at Goodison.

The Yanks are going ballistic DH, problem is some of them are not sure what for. The hype of course is World Cup and 250. I have to say, that the Yanks are by some distance tjhe worst kitted out fans in the contest. There is no such thing as a cool Yank fan at these games.
You'd prefer the Mexicans DH. Passion, raw (4 deaths FFS at the celebrations after the last win), 100% dedicated, Uncle Sam's poliitcal shadow and all that.
One thing on my mind Darren. Mexico have such an inbuilt advantage when they play in Mexico City with the oxygen snapping altitude. The Mexicans are completely used to it and prepared. Medical authorities say 2 weeks is needed to be prepared. England are travelling there today.
In brighter news. the last time someone scored two own goals in the same world cup England won it.

Argentina's population of fit young male adults is about 2mill. Cape Verdi's is about 30k, and yet we watch a draw in extra time.
To me it exemplifies the lack of heart, skill and courage of the so-called legendary mega-players of this century, long since bleeding genuine fans to the bone as they ponce about

Argentina were poor (they have been all competition imo) and Cape Verde played out of their skins.
On paper they should never have had a chance, but games aren't played on paper. They were committed and showed real quality at times. When they went behind they took it to the opposition and actually tried to score.
They deserved to get to penslty kicks.

All of this whining and whinging - honestly, would anything compare to the corruptness of the 1966 tournament where England's semi-final against Portugal was switched a day before from Goodison Park to Wembley allowing a lack of sleep and NO training for the Portugese who had to travel urgently? Stanley Rouse decision - oh, he was English too!!!!!!!! Don't believe me? Look it up to see the cheat trick that went on...never mentioned at all when the biased and uneducated media and English stars boast about such an "achievement"

I remember that well Gerry. When we bought our group of tickets at the beginning of the tournament, it was on the basis that should England make the semi final, it would be at Goodison. But as you say, it was switched at the last minute. We saw West Germany v Russia, which I recall was a poor game.

Gerry (121)Gerry I think Stanley Rouse was president of FIFA at the time and he had a big say on plenty things about that 1966 tournament including having a meeting with the referees and asking them to consider the different type of tackling between European and South American countries, not sure if he had anything to do with England playing the majority of their games at Wembley.
I thought Argentina had the best squad of players in that World Cup and England were lucky to beat them with Argentina playing a big part of the game with ten men, the controversy of the third goal, a supporter on the pitch when they scored the fourth etc etc!
