Pessimism over Tyler Dibling after Southampton reject third Everton bid
Everton might have to give up on their attempts to sign Tyler Dibling as pessimism grows around the club after a third bid fell short of Southampton’s demands.
Paul Joyce of The Times reports that the Blues’ latest bid was worth £40million, including add-ons, but the Saints are seeking a higher fee for their 19-year-old winger.
Everton had earlier lodged offers of around £27million and £35million for Dibling.
“It will now need Southampton to relent on their asking price for progress to be made,” the report added.
The search for a winger to play on the right has been proven to be frustrating for the Toffees so far. They missed out on their original target, Francisco Conceicao, who opted to join Juventus permanently after a loan spell from Porto.
Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad had also been on the shortlist, and contact was also made with Olympique Lyon’s Malick Fofana, although it has been reported that the latter is seeking European football.
Everton have also monitored Assane Diao, Omari Hutchinson and Tom Fellows, but little progress has been made on any of those players.

Also, why if the boy is that talented, haven't any of the big boys come in for him? Or maybe they want to see the boy develop before splashing the cash.
Should this deal go through, the pressure on a 19-year-old bought for in excess of £40M will be immense. The fee has nothing to do with the player, that's between the selling and buying clubs, but that won't stop the fans' expectations.
I am sure, seeing all the speculation, the boy's head will be turned, as no doubt will his agent's, after all of this; I just can't see him being at Southampton at the close of the window.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place on all our transfers. The selling clubs and agents hold all the cards, so we have little choice but to play the game.
Our situation is very well documented, so naturally we have to pay the asking price no matter who we're dealing with. Our needs are great and everyone knows that, so all we can do is pay or we don't buy anyone.
It's simple really.

Be interesting to see how he reacts if Everton walk away and will it push him into handing in a transfer request?
6 Posted 05/08/2025 at 10:33:16
paybacks a bitch
7 Posted 05/08/2025 at 10:43:28
He looks quality and we might even get him for less!
8 Posted 05/08/2025 at 10:54:04
That is beyond what Everton would be looking to pay for the 19-year-old winger and Southampton have been informed of their intention to focus on other targets, who are being pursued in parallel, due to the wide valuation gap.
Southampton do not plan to reduce their price owing to a belief that Dibling is the best young English player on the market and key to their aims of being promoted back to the Premier League.”
Time to move on, unless the player puts pressure on Southampton and demands a move.

Maybe give £40M upfront and £5M in add-ons so they've got their £45M. But as a final offer.
10 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:00:29
It sounds like Southampton are acting like Swansea when the price was going up and up after each bid we made for the footballer who couldn't be named, and there were no other clubs bidding for him.
Has there been any other bids for Dibling besides Everton's?

Could this be our 'Rooney' moment – when Man U got their player after paying about £35M (equivalent of £100M plus today), and the rest turned out to be history? Dibling has done nothing yet to suggest that he is anywhere close to Rooney's level, but the potential to reach that level is there.
It would be a huge statement of intent by Everton to get Dibling – it is certainly a big risk for Everton, but is it that big of a difference between paying £35M for Kubo or Hutchinson and £45M for Dibling? In the long run, given the money in the game, I suggest not.
I would be sickened if Liverpool, Tottenham, or one of the other big boys were to swoop in for Dibling and he turns out to be a star there. We are long overdue a bit of luck in finding our new talisman – I hope it turns out to be Dibling.

Soouthampton are in the Championship, and that's where they will be at the end of the 2025-26 season. Go back next summer as Dibling will only have 12 months left on his deal then.
14 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:23:15
Hasn't happened and won't happen.
15 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:34:38
If the club has walked away, then rightfully so if Southampton are playing games. They are going to have to sell and if they leave it until next summer, his price will drop significantly.
To me, if this is Everton's course of action, it smells of TFG. They walked away from taking over Everton until Moshiri decided to come back and agree to their offer.
I think the days of the previous regime's negotiation strategy of "how much do you want" are behind us.

18 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:44:55
No doubt in my mind that Dibling is going to be a player, but we can't be held to ransom; otherwise, they'll keep shoving the price up.
Everton would be wise to tell them where to get off and they'd be left with one very unhappy player.
As Dave A said, telling that there's not really anyone else in for him.
I'd be disappointed but there's others out there.
19 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:02:58
Get it wrong and we're back to 'Koeman' days and 5 more years of having our bollocks in the PSR vice.
20 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:03:20
I would have liked to have seen him in an Everton shirt but it would have been a big risk at £50M.
Hopefully we are already talking to alternatives or returning to up offers on players who are undecided.

22 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:11:48
If the kid wants the move, he should ask to leave.
23 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:16:14
Fair enough to hold out for a big fee but risk for them too if Dibling is unhappy. Still seems likely we'll get a good quality player for this position.
24 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:24:38
£50M is stupid. Walk away. I would rather have Richarlison back and that's not going to happen either.
25 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:30:04
I'd only agree to that percentage if the initial price was lowered... by quite a bit.
26 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:35:36
I'd pay that if we got £40M for Anthony Gordon a couple of years ago. I'd pay that all day long for this player.
27 Posted 05/08/2025 at 12:58:59
Whilst we need more players and pace, there is no need for us to bend to Southampton's extortion.
28 Posted 05/08/2025 at 13:25:34
29 Posted 05/08/2025 at 13:58:58
The dark days would be paying more for a shite player.
Meanwhile at Man United… theyre offering 73 million for Sezko (if thats how its spelt).
Laid off all of the staff, but are able to cough up approaching 200 million on 3 players.
Disgrace of a club.
Carry on the good work, Everton.
Well get more players in.
Moyes speaking out has clearly and hopefully helped.
30 Posted 05/08/2025 at 14:05:05
31 Posted 05/08/2025 at 14:22:45
I agree. Also the remark "he is key to their plans for returning to the Premier League," some might take to mean by playing for them but I assume they mean by selling and reinvesting.
I suspect no one will come in with a higher bid but worse case is someone else comes in with a lower bid that's more attractive. For example, a Champions League team. Then he agitates for a move and Southampton end up taking the bid as frankly they need the money.
32 Posted 05/08/2025 at 14:25:02
I'd pay £45M plus 10/15% of any future profit for Dibling.
33 Posted 05/08/2025 at 14:45:32
34 Posted 05/08/2025 at 15:35:38
It seems like we have smart people running the club now. £40M is a huge offer for a player with one season's first-team experience in the Premier League.
So many positions still to strengthen. Must be smart. Probably best to walk away from this one.
35 Posted 05/08/2025 at 16:43:29
Maybe go back later when they've realised that no-one will pay and the lad wants to leave.
36 Posted 05/08/2025 at 17:56:44
Has it though? I'm a Moyes fan normally but, other than maybe placating the fans that the powers that be are on it in terms of buying players, I really don't see the benefit of Moyes speaking out like that other than to alert selling clubs as to how desperate we are for players. I think we are seeing the inflationary results of that now.
Mike @35,
Agree Mike, we do need to walk away now. I do like the way though we have lined up a number of options compared to previous transfer strategies. My favourite for this position was and remains Kubo.
Lee @25,
Agree on the 25% fiasco, if we are going to take the risk of buying a 19-year-old then we shouldn't be giving up a quarter of any future sell on fee, absolutely ridiculous.
37 Posted 05/08/2025 at 18:27:25
So if we bought him for £45M but sold him for £60M then Southampton would be due 25% of that increase – so 25% of £15M.
87 Posted 08/08/2025 at 20:43:40
88 Posted 08/08/2025 at 21:02:36
The sell-on percentage only applies to any profit Everton make on the player... apparently.

Do you know what they mean, Dale? I'm going to check out The Lincolnshire Poacher theory.
Maybe this is how some clubs communicate with each other
97 Posted 09/08/2025 at 08:02:53
Some have strange synth sounds without letters or numbers which may be a prompt or signal about the significance of what follows. Much of it is just running cover for the few bits of meaningful code. Freaky stuff no doubt.
And isn't 555 a Thai beer? I thought I remembered getting that served when the place in Den Bien Phu ran out of Tiger beer.

99 Posted 09/08/2025 at 09:40:21
Spurs don't tend to buy older players, and Eze is only 24, London based and fits their mould better than Grealish.
100 Posted 09/08/2025 at 09:49:42
£40M up front
£5M on achievable add one
£10.5M after Southampton and Everton agree 10% sell on clause, redeemed when Everton sell Dibling to Real Madrid after 3 seasons for £150M after leading them to the league title.
101 Posted 09/08/2025 at 09:56:35
Presure next week to get the deals done, such that the playing squad is the match-day squad.
I still think we will sign both.
102 Posted 09/08/2025 at 10:04:59
As for Dibling, the lack of alternate bids emerging suggests we are still keen on him. Hopefully it gets done over next week or so. It's in both clubs interests to resolve it sooner than later.
I expect around £37M with £5M in easily achievable add-ons and maybe another £5M in more ambitious add-ons plus 10% of future profit.
103 Posted 09/08/2025 at 10:16:05
Like Ian, I still think we'll sign Grealish and Dibling the way things are going.
104 Posted 09/08/2025 at 10:20:31
Again.
105 Posted 09/08/2025 at 10:27:09

No goals
No assists
No dribbles
No key passes

I'ts a Number 9 graveyard for emerging centre-forwards. A lesson in moving too early.

If we can't do a deal at this level, then at this stage in the Everton journey, it's probably time to move to the next target.
