The goalkeeper is Ruben Savvas and the post says he is 14 years old. He would play for Everton U15s, who merit little if any coverage via official channels. Disclaimer () Pete Neilson 1 Posted 19/07/2025 at 08:48:49 Reported this morning on a couple of sites and the Academy X account:“Everton Academy have completed the signing of highly rated Liverpool Goalkeeper, Ruben Savvas for a reported fee of £200k.The 14-year-old has represented England U15s and will join up with the Everton U15s this season. Welcome to Everton Ruben.” Tony Abrahams 2 Posted 19/07/2025 at 09:48:54 Signing kids for £200k? The game has gone… Dave Abrahams 3 Posted 19/07/2025 at 10:32:48 Tony (2),Sonny went to school with a young lad who was on Tranmere Rovers books as a 14-or 15-year-old and Tranmere sold him to Man City at that age for £28,000.That was about 15 years ago so, with inflation, there isn't much difference between then and now — you're right, though the game had gone mad then and it's a bit more madder now! Tony Abrahams 4 Posted 19/07/2025 at 10:53:11 Everton also bought an even younger kid, an 11-year-old, from another club the other month, Dave. The game has gone fucking mad! Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 19/07/2025 at 11:55:02 Tony (4), I thought clubs couldn't buy young players ‘til they are 14 years of age? Tony Abrahams 6 Posted 19/07/2025 at 12:12:11 I don't know how it works, Dave, but without going into much detail, the kid was told by his club not to go anywhere near Finch Farm until they had sorted it out with Everton. It's absolutely ludicrous. I'm sure you could find two dedicated, top class coaches for the kind of money being spent on kids now, although we only tend to hear about the success stories of these academies. The players who make it and we are told they have been at the academy since they were 7 years of age — but they can still only kick with one foot! Sean Mitchell 7 Posted 19/07/2025 at 12:18:26 Let's hope he's the next best thing at that price. He probably couldn't wait to get away from the kopite gobshites. Welcome to Everton. Robert Tressell 8 Posted 19/07/2025 at 12:20:54 £200k for a player who could make his first team debut in 4 to 5 years sounds like good business to me. None of this is nice is it – but football stopped being nice in 1992. If you want it to be nice, then it's time to support Fleetwood or Chester etc. Alan J Thompson 9 Posted 19/07/2025 at 18:10:43 Sorry but I just can't agree with this buying and selling of kids as though they are just business products. It's bad enough hearing about 4-, 5- and 8-year-old kids being scouted. Ian Bennett 10 Posted 19/07/2025 at 18:19:09 I heard of a lad go from a Category 3 academy (league club) to United for £100k. He was 12. It happens. There's some serious amount of dough going on the cream of the academy system. It's as competitive for that talent at older age groups. Dave Abrahams 11 Posted 05/08/2025 at 10:33:13 Everton have a young lad, 15 or 16, Jonathon Nasangou, I believe he is an exceptional footballer. I hope Everton and Moyes are not afraid to play him in the first team even off the bench.I know friendlies are different to competition games but if this kid is good enough then play him.I would be interested in what Robert Tressell or other Everton fans think if they have seen him. Danny O'Neill 12 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:00:00 I haven't seen him, Dave, but if he's good enough, I have no problems with him being introduced. Some are ready earlier, others take a bit more time. It's like Armstrong. Still only 18, but for me, he's ready to feature from what I've seen.Throw him on against Roma on Saturday.I wonder how Moyes will treat it. A dress rehearsal for his planned starting 11 against Leeds? Or will he introduce a few wildcards? Probably a bit of both.Either way, I'm travelling up, and looking forward to it. Dave Abrahams 13 Posted 05/08/2025 at 11:04:52 Danny (12), Thanks for your reply. I hope you have a good trip up this weekend before you start your treks up and down the country when the Premier League starts. Best wishes and good health, Danny, for the future.
